Moved to a VPS.. Finally!

Hey everbody,

I finally moved to better hosting and I’m kicking myself for not doing so much much earlier. Most of my SEO projects moved one to two spots up in the SERPS. One site that I tried to move to the number one spot for quite a while now, went from #2 to #1 in a matter of a few hours.

Also all the PPV campaigns I tried on shared hosting (oh man don’t even ask) were doomed from the get go. Page loading anyone? It’s nice to have 4 dedicated IPs and generally more ‘power’ behind your Sites/Tracking. I spent about a week just playing around with my new VPS, I was so excited. Funny enough my productivity went up also. I guess that has something to do with seeing results. Now if I could just get Facebook going again .

For my VPS I went with Wiredtree (yes it’s an affiliate link, chances are you not going to buy it anyways because a) You’re smarter then me and already have a VPS/Dedicated already or b) You don’t care about your business and therefore are a moron).

On another note I’m imagining that I can already see first glimpses of my six pack and since I’m almost done with my first cycle of MAX-OT I think I’ll be able to finally release those fattie pics without hurting my ego too much .

Oh man – Facebook, what have you done?

So probably everyone has gotten the email from Facebook stating some weird changes about CPM vs. CPC. Now I’ve been recently trying to get a german dating campaign into the green on Facebook and somehow couldn’t manage to get ads over 0.1% that would convert.

The way I would usually go about building a Facebook campaign was to create 10 ads let them run for 5k impressions and then cut out the ones that didn’t perform. But for some reason I was not able to get a CTR of 0.1% and above (yay I suck). I tried some very risky ad copy + images. Took a while to get them through but even a halfnaked girl basically saying: Get laid tonight in german wouldn’t do the trick. I got close (around 0.08%) but “banner blindness” set in really quick. So after around 10k impressions the CTR started dropping to 0.05%

So I decided to split test CPM vs. CPC. Made the exact same ad for CPM and CPC and what do you know, the CPC ad had an CTR of 0.271% while the CPM ad had only 0.083%.

Here are the stats for the two ads:

CPC Ad:
22,140 Impressions
60 Clicks
CPC 0.17$

CPM Ad
15,719 Impressions
13 Clicks
CPC 0.11$

Now if I had the same CTR from the CPC ad on the CPM ad (which on any normal ad network would be the case) I would have gotten 30 Clicks more and had CPC of 0.03$. But since Facebook apparently decided to show their CPM ads to people without a mouse and hands I guess that is not going to happen for a while.

If anyone is still doing a lot of volume I would be interested to hear if you are doing CPC and paying the suggested Millions of $ per click or if you are doing CPM still?

What’s up? I’m back

I haven’t posted on this blog for quite a while now, even my mom criticized me for it, but I’ve been busy doing other stuff. I’ve had my first ‘good’ month, made around 350$ in November, mostly doing Facebook Ads. I realized that I should take advantage of what I got, which is the ability to speak multiple languages. The international market is huge and there is a lot of untapped potential out there.

I’ve been working at my dads firm for a bit now and I might redo their site and do the SEO for them once their new product comes out. If any of you guys have experience doing SEO for local businesses and what to charge for it please let me know.

On another note I recently discovered that one of the big problems in this whole affiliate industry that there are so many ways to get sidetracked. You can spend an afternoon on wickedfire reading stupid posts that don’t make you any money whatsoever. Another problem as a newbie is that there are so many different ways to make money. You could do local directories, you could do facebook ads, you could do adwords (yeah right ), you could do adsense sites, etc. etc.

It is very easy to start one thing and if it doesn’t work out right from the start go to the next thing. The reason for that is basicallly ‘Magic Pill’-Thinking, you believe that if you found the right formula you’d be rich over night. Last month thaught me though that it basically comes down to work. Launch campaigns and test them. If you launch 10 campaigns a day you are bound to find a winner. So I guess what I’m trying to say I try to stop looking for short cuts and do the work instead.

I also recently bought uBot too and I think it’s a great tool, helps me automate a lot of stuff. I think I will post a few simple tutorials on this blog, like a Twitter Comment Bot or something like that. I still want to learn a ‘real’ programming lanuage like Python or PHP, guess I could read a book about Python over Christmas.

Btw. I still need to buy Christmas presents. Luckily I like going to malls full of people trying to get their christmas gifts… NOT.

New Design and AdSense

As all of you can see I have a new design, it’s not final but I like it better then the old one. One thing that I think is somewhat funny is that all those guys doing WordPress themes always put a ton of their affiliate pages in there. I wouldn’t mind a backlink to their site but a thousand links to an online pharmacy? Come on!

I also signed up for Google AdSense and got approved so I guess I can start throwing AdSense on my blogs I’m not sure if I want to put it here on my personal blog and where I want to put it. Well, I’m thinking about putting the leader board that Google provides in the upper right corner. It would look something like this:

Any input on the matter is greatly appreciated since I’ve never used AdSense before.

On another note my german sites start picking up seo traffic which is great. I think I’ve been a fool of not taking advantage of my german skills and only focusing on the American market, when it’s so much easier to rank for ultra competitive terms, also I guess the keywords are going to be cheaper.

So after I finished my Linkwheel I felt kinda lost and not really knowing what to do next apart from building backlinks to my sites, which I’m still doing, but SEO is so slow (haha rhyme, rhyme) and it takes a while to see results, but luckily I got an email from Wotogepa about promoting E-mail submits on Adbrite. They sent me two youtube videos in which PPC Coach tells you exactly how to do it.

An update..

So,

I reinstalled Windows on my roommates laptop today. Was a pain in the ass! I love my MacBook Air . Anyways because Windows was taking forever to install I was able to work while installing that shit. I added some sites to my debt network. Hopefully, they start getting up in the rankings and I will be able to start earning some cash, seo is different from PPC but I almost think it’s more fun, well and google kinda banned one of my accounts. No fun!

On a personal note had an ex-student of mine stay at my place this weekend was a lot of fun and he is just a cool guy to hang out with. So if you ever go to Innsbruck, Austria beware of Alex, he is probably going to steal your girl .

Also I went to take my photo taken for my new/old passport so I’ll be able to go to Vegas to the RSD summit, it’s going to be glorious. I’m going to stay with a buddy from Stockholm, oh I can’t wait.

That’s all so far, going to build a few backlinks now to my new sites and see what happens.

Paris and now Oslo

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in Oslo, Norway after being in Paris for two weeks. The city is great, everybody is nice and friendly but stuff is very expensive. A beer costs around 10 dollars. The nature here is great with the view of the harbor and mountains.

I lost my passport which sucks and hopefully I can get a new one in time for America.

I completed almost every site of my new project. I built a linkwheel with the following sites:

Now it’s time to build the main site and some backlinks and rise in the rankings..

Roleplays: A HowTo

Okay, first we need some Brittney up in this bitch:

So now this is taken care of, prepare to get some knowledge forced into your brains. Hanging out with Brad in Amsterdam right now and whilst on seminar today I realised how much I love roleplays and how good I am at this shit , so I’m telling you guys how to become the knight on a white horse you always wanted to be.

So, why would you wanna do roleplays? Simple, if you don’t have a clue what to talk about: do a roleplay, if you don’t know how to turn stuff sexual: do a roleplay, if you like chicken wings: do a roleplay. Seriously, roleplays are potent shit, they allow for you to talk about the craziest shit in a ‘safe’ environment. While you may not be able to talk about group sex involving anal in a normal convo, during a roleplay you can.

“Okay Matt, but how do I initiate a roleplay?” you might ask, the answer is simple. The basic structure is “We should X…” or “Let’s X” where as for X you can insert almost anything you want. Good stuff that works easily is building a business mixed with crime or doing an activity together. For example “We should start robbing banks and help the poor, kinda like a modern robin hood” or “Let’s start a sex slave business” of course the options are limitless. With this structure you should never run out of stuff to say anymore. Just insert the first thing that pops in your head for X and you are good to go.

For the roleplay itself, try to make it interactive, creative, sexual and emotional. The more emotions you can stuff in there the better, try to take her on a mental adventure. So for example she tells you about her interest in tomatoes -> “We should become tomato farmers and live by the sea near a secluded beach, where we could have sex in the wild, run around naked all the time, but then the evil tomato mafia would try to steal our tomatoes and we’d have to fight ninjas and then they’d send female models so I’d cheat on you so you’d leave me but I would make it up to you buy killing a gremlin and serving you his guts for dinner.”

As you can see you can jump around as much as you want, the more irrational and emotional the better, it keeps them on their toes and they’ll be reacting to you instead of you reacting to them. If you don’t want to go as crazy you can use a bit more ‘safer’ ones (I stole these from Brad/Tim ):

“We should get married…”
“I need a female bodyguard…”
“I’m hiring you as my new chef/assistant/maid…”
“You are my new girlfriend…”

Try to get her involved in the roleplay as much as possible as it will help you letter on with callback humor or texting her. It’s much easier to be “Hey tomato girl, what’s up?” then “Hello this is Matt, we met at club X the other night”.

Roleplays are really easy to do and will make you stand out from the crowd, so if you have never done a roleplay you should definitely add them to your arsenal and start implementing them in your conversations.

Brad had a big part in writing this so much respect to him .

I’m thinking of building a ‘dream board’, actually I should build a ‘todo board’ as well and post the weekly todos here so I hold myself accountable and stay on track
